I've been busy building and not taking many pictures. So here is a bit of an update.
As you can see the engine now sits on a base, as you can see in the following images this is actually a hollow cone.
|You can see that this does cause a bit of a problem as this base is not at the centre of gravity of the engine and so will need to be filled with lead to make it stable.|
The fan was jumping around on the bearing. I've solved this by threading the post 8BA and then using a small brass nut to hold the fan in place.
It now all runs much much smoother.
The upright needed to be braced and this shows the wooden pieces that have been added as buttresses.
The hot and cold sides of the displace are now bolted together with 8BA bolts.
There is quite a sandwich of parts here with some wooden and some brass, the intention being to insulate the hot from the cold so that I can get as big a temperature differential as possible.
The wooden piece that can been seen next to the cooling fins is a piece of walnut, machined to locate the hot and cold pieces of the displacer.
This piece is glued to the upright.
This piece also has a hole in the opposite side to this image for the pipe that will go to the power cylinder.
This shows the other side of the displacer cyclinder and here you can see the hole in the wooden connector between the hot and cold halves.
This is where the pipe will go to the power cylinder.
I need to varnish the wood and make up a proper connection block for this pipe.
