Anson Engine Museum
- This unusual and fascinating museum has a great deal to offer its visitors. Over the past few years it has undergone some major changes and is now recognised as one of the Country’s leading specialist museums. It has appeared several times on television and has won many awards from professional engineering bodies and tourism organisations.
Situated just south of Manchester in the leafy countryside of Higher Poynton, the museum is on the site of the old Anson Colliery. It is the result of years of hard work collecting and restoring engines. This award winning museum houses the largest collection of engines in Europe, many maintained in running order. Engine enthusiasts from all over the world come to visit this fascinating museum. They also have a display of local history items such as photographs, maps, mementoes and keepsakes from the Vernon Estate and Anson Colliery. These are featured in changing exhibits throughout the season.
